IP and Brand Protection
Protecting intellectual property such as research work or commercially
sensitive information requires the techniques above together with
additional levels of controls which cover, for example, classification and
control of documents, personnel security, vetting and countering
electronic eavesdropping. This would be implemented by training and
education, access to specialist in-house expertise and equipment and
contractor support.
The protection of the company's reputation includes techniques to counter:
-
product contamination
-
product counterfeiting and parallel importing
-
extortion
-
dealing with 'whisper campaigns' (e.g. that a company supports
terrorism)
-
effective contingency plans will also assist in this area
-
preventing individual acts by employees, contractors or others to harm
a company's reputation by, for example, causing environmental damage.
This would be achieved by training, education, regular visits, inspections
and audits and specialist input. In the event of an incident or activity
thought to be potentially harmful, crisis management support would be
provided together with the supervision of in-house and external resources
to counter the threat.
